This symbol "#" means a lot of different things: a number sign (like "We're #1!"), it's a key on a touchtone phone ("Dial 9, then Press #"), or maybe you even know it as a shortcut for weight in pounds ("Today's Sale: Turkey at 23¢/#).

Today, this symbol is most commonly used as a hashtag in social media and websites. What does a hashtag do if it's not related to any of the uses above?
